This is a particular favourite of Alan’s as he started his signwriting ‘life’ by painting a previous pictorial sign on this pub way back in 1987! That one sign commission changed his career.
It was with great pleasure that we received a commision many years later to re-paint the sign and provide a completely new fascia sign. The owner, however, had a particular image in mind for the pictorial. He wanted a copy of a 15th-century masterpiece! namely Ucculos’ hunt in the forest. A painting hanging in the Ashmolean Museum Oxford. So off to see it is what we did and although I say so myself I think I did a pretty damn good job.
The pictorial is panted on a separate panel with a round top, edges are gold leaf. If you look closely you can see even the lettering is ‘incised carved’ into the panel to match the large facia sign we produced. Again all lettering is 23-carat gold.
